Learning Tree Development Center
Where Quality Child Care and Affordability Meet
Toddler Room
Welcome to the Toddler Room!  In this room we encourage self-discovery, independence, exploration and learning through play.  We recognize that each child is an individual and strive to provide an environment that enhances each child's development.

Wobbler Class Schedule

Wobbler Room Checklist

Our Todder Room is licensed for 15 children, although we like to keep our number in the room around 8.  The teacher/child ratio is 1:7.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE TODDLER ROOM:

Arrival and Departure:
When you arrive at the center, please sign your child in using the time clock and fill out the "Daily Information Form" which can be found on the parent wall.  We are responsible for your child when you have brought him/her to his teacher.  Under NO circumstances should your child be allowed to find his/her own way into the center, or left with a non-staff person.

When leaving the center for the day, please check out with your child's teacher and make sure you check your child out on the time clock.  This allows for an accurate attendance count, especially in an emergency.  We will only release your child to his/her parents or to someone you have specifically authorized to pick up your child (by filling out a Child Release Form).  We ask that all new faces bring in some form of picture identification to ensure your child's safety.

Clothing:
Dress your child in play clothes.  (we are not responsible for your child's clothes getting dirty)  We paint, play in shaving cream, play outdoors and provide many exciting and sometimes "messy" activities so please be understanding if your child gets a little messy during the day.

What To Bring:
Please provide at least 2 complete (labeled) changes of clothes, which include socks, pants and shirt.  Keep in mind the weather when you are dressing your child for the day, and when you provide extra clothing to keep at the center.
 Summer/Spring     Fall/Winter
Sweater ( for inside - air conditioning)  Hat
 Sun Screen  Coat/Snowpants/Snowsuit
 Sun Hat  Boots
 Light Jacket  Gloves/Mittens

Daily Sheets:
We use the Daily Sheets as a way to communicate from home to school and vice versa.  Please be sure to fill one block out everyday as you drop off your child.

Meal Times:
There is Breakfast, Lunch and a Snack every day.  Learning Tree provides Breakfast and Snack.  It is your responsibility to provide lunch for your child.  During this transitional time of eating in your child's life, please try and send foods that your child can feed themselves to help their fine motor skills and prepare them for the next room.  If your child is to eat with us, please have them here at the start of each meal.

Please keep in mind that foods that need to be cut have to be cut at home, as we do not have the means, nor the authority to prepare food for serving (per Bloomington Health Department).  To sum it up, we are able to heat up food only - not to prepare them.

Toys From Home:
With the exception of nap time, toys from home should not be brought to school.  We realize that some of these toys are very special, and we wouldn't want them to be misplaced or broken.

Conferences:
Parent/Teacher conferences are held at the end of each semester.  We will post the times and dates as the semester ends.  You may at anytime request a conference, just speak with your child's teacher to set a date and time that would be convenient.

Toileting:
Parents must provide diapers for their child.  Learning Tree provides wipes.  When you are running low on diapers, it will be noted on your child's daily sheet.  If your child is out of diapers, we will charge a fee of $1 per diaper.

Rest Time:
Please provide a blanket, pillow or stuffed animal/doll for your child.  Children have a great nap time if they have something special from home.  Blankets must be taken home every week to be washed.

Bottles/Pacifiers:
Bottles are not allowed in the Toddler Room.  Pacifiers are only given to a child to go down for nap or if they are distressed.

Developmentally Appropriate Learning Areas:

Learning Tree provides developmentally appropriate learning areas for our classroom.  Here are the learning areas and activities in the Wobbler Room.

        Self Help Skills:
Self Help Skills are important in your child's development.  We will help your child throughout the day to learn
to clean up after activities, clean up lunch, dress themselves and help them learn self-help skills whenever
possible and appropriate throughout your child's day.  Working on these skills at home helps to further
        encourage these important self-help skills.

        Art:
        Many materials are provided for the children to allow them to be individually creative.  Some of the supplies are;
Paint, glue, markers, playdough, shaving cream, crayons and more!

        Music:
Music time includes playing rhythm instruments, singing songs and dancing to music.

        Story-Time:
Stories may be told by reading books and making up stories!

        Manipulative Area:
Legos, puzzles, stringing toys and various other games are among the options in our manipulative area.

        Large Muscle Activities:
We have our outdoor play area and the Normandale Gym to enhance large motor skills, as well as a climber
in the room.  We provide push toys, balls and a variety of games to encourage growth in the child's
        development.

        Dramatic Play:
We play dress up, have telephone talks, play with babies and do a lot of pretend cooking!

        Sensory Area:
We change the contents of the table regularly so the children can experience different textures.  Some of the
contents include: water, shaving cream, cotton balls and sand.

        Outdoor and Gym Play:
Outdoor play is a special part of our child's day.  Fresh air and exercise are important to your child's health and
to the curriculum.  You can help your child enjoy the outdoors and gym play by making sure your child is
properly dressed and wearing comfortable shoes for play activities.
